A Mindset Shift

A Mindset Shift

If you haven’t noticed, the mainstream ag media makes autonomy out to be a done deal. Given the number of times I’ve seen people stopped on the side of the road taking videos, the technology is certainly captivating. There’s a fascination with watching machines work without human input. The allure is undeniable. It makes a great headline.

I’m not going to lie. Autonomy is hard – really hard. It’s hardly a one-size-fits-all. Every farm is different. Every field is different. Every field operation is different. It’s like a death by a thousand cuts, with each new challenge revealing layers of complexity that demand constant innovation and adaption.

Perhaps the biggest thing I admire about our customers in the sod market is that it is not constrained by tradition. I’ve never heard our customers say, “This is how we’ve always done things.” Brandon Chambley from Super Sod put it succinctly by saying, “We’ve changed the way we prepare our farms. We’ve got to farm towards the technology.” This shift in thinking illustrates the evolving mindset of today’s farmers. Autonomy isn’t about adding a new tool to the toolbox – it’s about rethinking how farming is done from the ground up.

This changing mindset is reflected in how our customers approach their work. They’ve embraced the need to adapt, recognizing that the integration of technology into farming is more than just a convenience, it’s an evolution. The way they farm today is not the way they farmed a decade ago, and it won’t be the way they farm in the next decade. Autonomy has become a driving force in shaping the future of agriculture, and our customers are leading the way. I am honored to be walking beside them.
