As a member of Sabanto’s web platform team, Full Stack Engineer, Ray Kim, works across the technology stack that connects people to autonomous equipment, from the applications customers use to monitor and operate their machines to the cloud infrastructure and APIs (Application Programming Interface) working behind the scenes.
In other words, if the tractor is the muscle, Ray helps build and maintain a portion of the nervous system.
Ray’s role touches nearly every part of Sabanto’s digital experience. He works on the web application and Mission Control, the mobile applications for iOS and Android, APIs, cloud infrastructure and communication between software and tractor firmware.
“That was one of the things that really drew me to Sabanto,” he says. “You’re not just building another SaaS dashboard. You’re building something that interacts with robotics.”
And in a company developing autonomous technology, connecting those different pieces is critical. The software has to communicate reliably, provide operators with the information they need and work seamlessly with the machine in the field.
One milestone Ray is particularly proud of is the launch of Sabanto’s native application Steward for iOS and Android, in 2024. The app provides improved connectivity and opens the door to features such as push notifications, creating a more direct connection between the operator and the autonomous system.
Looking ahead, Ray hopes to spend more time on mobile development while taking on greater ownership of Sabanto’s overall architecture. He recently joined the company’s safety committee, giving him a seat at the table for broader technical and strategic decisions.
When he’s away from the keyboard, you’re likely to find Ray fishing or playing golf. He also practices haircutting as a side business. Ray sees a connection between fishing and programming: both require patience, research and a willingness to try something, learn from it and adjust.
It’s a fitting philosophy for someone helping build technology that’s constantly evolving.
